Postgame Quotes - February 23, 2011

Pistons at Pacers
Detroit: John Kuester | Rodney Stuckey | Tracy McGrady | Greg Monroe

Indiana: Frank Vogel | Josh McRoberts | Darren Collison | Paul George

Pistons Head Coach John Kuester

“Our guys showed a lot of courage tonight. We faced a team that was scrappy. In the second half I thought we did an outstanding job. (On the dunk by Brandon Rush) What we had done was a great job on Granger. I was impressed with Tracy (McGrady). He had a great stop and then all of a sudden we loaded and Rush slashed right behind our guys and I didn’t think he could find him, but he did. It was a great play. (General) Our guys did a great job in the second half, working had and that’s what we have to do. We defended and defended with a purpose. Tracy McGrady did an outstanding job. Greg Monroe was phenomenal. Ben Wallace had 10 rebounds and was distributing the ball. We had a lot of good contributions. Give our guys a lot of credit because they very easily could have folded but they showed courage and worked their butts of the get back in the game.”

Pistons Guard Rodney Stuckey

“Our main problem this year has been we are inconsistent. Tonight we were able to score the ball, but not stop them. We need to put our focus on defense. I think if we can stop teams, we’ll be a much better team. (On the Pacers game tonight) Energy. They got a lot of loose balls. Tyler Hansbrough had a great game. He came off the bench and was able to energize them by getting a lot of offensive rebounds.

Pistons Guard Tracy McGrady

“It’s very disappointing, especially when you give yourselves a chance to win the ball game. We came out flat in the first half. The second half, we played with a lot more energy. Had we played that way for two halves we probably would have won the game…We were one play away from winning the game. (On Greg Monroe) He did a great job of using his body when you have a 7-2 guy down there who is a good shot blocker. Greg did a good job of getting the ball up for some baskets for us.”

Pistons Forward Greg Monroe

“It felt good to be in a game like that, but I’d rather come out with a win…We have to play the whole game like we did in the fourth quarter and we might have a different outcome. (On his performance in general) I missed about six or seven easy lay-ups early in the game and some open jump shots. We still found a way to stay in the game, but if I make those easy buckets we win the game.”

Pacers Head Coach Frank Vogel

“They’re not all going to be pretty. Sometimes you have to grind it out to get the W. (On the last play) Danny Granger made a great play. He’s really growing in his decisions late in the game. He found Brandon (Rush) and Brandon went to the basket aggressive. (On the power forwards) I love both of those kids and James Posey too. Nobody in the NBA plays harder than Tyler Hansbrough, nobody. Greg Monroe had a terrific night. We couldn’t stop him. They’ve got some weapons. These two games (after the All-Star break) there will be an element of rust, but we got out of it 2-0.”

Pacers Forward Josh McRoberts

“This was huge. We needed to get the second half started off right, plus we owed them from the other game. We are gaining confidence and are learning how to win and close games out. We will be playing top teams and we have to make top plays to win these games. We played Miami close but they had three superstars and we are not there yet. I need to continue to grow and learn by doing.”

Pacers Guard Darren Collison

“It was a big one for us. It was big because we won with a real good defensive stop. We got a stop on Stuckey. The NBA is a tough league and is different night in and night out. If you execute well, you put yourself in a good position of winning. If you don’t, you can put yourself in position to lose. We are getting better in knowing what to do and how to do it.”

Pacers Forward Paul George

“Tyler and Josh really gave us a lift. It was a team effort and a big win. When teams make runs at you and you can answer the bell and ring them up, that is playing NBA basketball. I am becoming more confident because I am learning by doing and by making mistakes and recovering from them. Coach Frank allows this. All I need to do is to continue to play tough and gain from the mistakes that I make. I am not a finished product.”
