The Detroit Pistons Community & Social Responsibility mission is to use the game of basketball as a vehicle for change that will inspire and impact the community. Tom Gores and the Detroit Pistons, in partnership with the City of Detroit Parks and Recreation Department, announced today the completion of the final phase of the organization’s six-year, $2.5 million basketball court renovation and refurbishment project in parks throughout the city.
In partnership with United Dairy Industry of Michigan and Planet Fitness, the Pistons renovated the weight room after being selected by the Detroit Public School Community District as this year’s renovation recipient.
PeacePlayers will be honored Friday night when the nonprofit will be presented with the 2023 Mannie Jackson-Basketball’s Human Spirit Award during Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame enshrinement activities.
Morris, Michigan’s Mr. Basketball in 2013 and a former standout at Flint Beecher, had to show his support at the ribbon-cutting to unveil the renovated basketball court at William Durant Park, which was sponsored by Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores’ FlintNOW Foundation.
In partnership with Children’s Foundation and Priority Health, the mid-June camp was held at the Pistons Performance Center. It was one of 17 that the Pistons sponsored throughout the metro Detroit area during the summer.
