Pelicans Coach Alvin Gentry:

On what happened after the first quarter leading to tonight’s loss:

“You’ve got to play the right way. We didn’t get into playing the right way after the first quarter. It started before the end of the first quarter. We got this thing [and] when we get up, we decide to go out on our own and we have bad possessions and we think that we can survive it and we put ourselves in a tough situation. When you get a team who comes in and all of a sudden they’re making shots and they’re pushing the basketball down your throat then the result is that you get your ass kicked and that’s exactly what happened to us. One hundred percent.”

On tonight’s effort:

“It’s an everything breakdown. Everything sucked. The effort that we played with sucked. The coaching sucked, ball movement, everything about it was just horrendous. There’s no way to sugarcoat it. We have an opportunity, we’re trying to get ourselves and work ourselves into the playoffs and we have an opportunity to do something that puts us a little bit closer to our goal and instead we laid an egg. I can sit up here and I can B.S. you guys and say well this happened and they made shots [but] no, they kicked our ass. In just plain English, they kicked our ass. In every phase of the game they did. Three-point shooting, rebounding, hustling, driving the ball to the basket. Everything that you can talk about basketball. There was not one phase of the game that we won, not one, and if we’re not ready to play, I’ve got to get them ready to play. It’s really, really disappointing to do that on a home stand that becomes very important to us. I would like to come out here and say, you know, yes, it’s one of those things that happens. No. We have to be, in order for us to try to be a playoff team, we can’t have things like this happen. Where they’re driving the ball down and it’s like a dunk fest. I don’t know how many dunks they had. Probably fifteen. We had no weak side defense, we’re not keeping the ball in front of us. So I could sit here if you guys want to ask questions or you just wanted me to talk, I’ll tell you, it was a really piss poor effort, all around. Like I said, hey, point the finger at the coaches too. It’s not just the players. We’ve got to be better and we’ve got to be better in a day and I guarantee you we’ll get it done tomorrow at practice. We won’t have this kind of effort again.”

Pelicans guard Langston Galloway:

“It’s tough. That was a game that we needed especially before going on a trip [before] All-Star [break] and we definitely gave one back.”

On the team’s ability to bounce back:

“Yeah definitely. We have to be ready for Monday against Cleveland. We have to come out with a lot of force and ready to go.”

Pelicans guard Tyreke Evans:

“We did not make shots. We did not push the ball. Everyone on their team hit shots and there is not much we can do about that.”

On if this is the worst loss since he has been in New Orleans:

“I mean, definitely. To a team like that, no disrespect to them, they play hard every night, but we are a way better team than that, but they got us tonight.”
