“Plaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy Ballllllllll!”

For Monty Williams, that phrase isn’t one that comes into play too often. On Sunday, July 31, however, it was one that was on top of mind. At the third annual Hornets Night at Zephyr Field, as the home team New Orleans Zephyrs took on the Albuquerque Isotopes, Williams threw out the first pitch.

Williams was successful in getting the ball to home plate, but it was the moment after his throw that garnered the loudest response from the crowd – a successful pitch from Williams’ four-year-old son, Elijah.

Hornets Night at Zephyr Field kicked off Sunday afternoon with a party for more than 1,000 Hornets season-ticket holders. Hornets Krewe members had a chance to interact with Williams and General Manager Dell Demps, as well as enjoy drinks and sno-balls before the game.

After the pre-game party, the Hornets-themed fun continued throughout the game. The Honeybees performed after the second inning – as some of the newest members of the squad made their dancing debut. Team mascot Hugo and the Buzz Patrol threw t-shirts to fans and entertained the crowd in between innings.

As the Zephyrs cruised to a 9-3 victory over the Isotopes, fans joined Hugo, the Honeybees and the Buzz Patrol in singing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh inning stretch. The night was capped by a fireworks show to celebrate the win.
