What the New Orleans Pelicans had to say about 99-82 loss to the Pacers (1/4/14)

Pelicans Head Coach Monty Williams
On the third quarter turnaround

“Well we just didn’t play well. I can come up with a lot of things that sound good on camera. We just didn’t play that well. Basically they took it to us on the defensive end and I thought offensively Stephenson (Lance) was the catalyst for them. We competed tonight. We just got out of synch on the offensive end and that led to them getting a number of offensive opportunities. I think they picked up their energy a little bit. I could complain about things that don’t matter, missed calls and the like, but they picked up their mentality. It was a lesson for our guys. Talk about that kind of basketball and why you play that way. Can’t make an excuse about having a back to back. That’s just part of the game. They just picked up and we did not.”

Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday
On the difference from first half to the second half
“I thought the Pacers were able to control the paint and they played a lot better defense. Earlier in the game we were able to penetrate and get into the paint and make some nice plays at the basket. They began to close that off and keyed on Eric (Gordon) and Tyreke (Evans). They just stepped up their defense. It’s the same thing that they did the first time we played them. They are a good team.”

Pelicans guard Eric Gordon
On how he played on his return home to Indiana
“I thought I did pretty good in the first half. But in the second half I kind of slowed down. They’re a good team, they’re a tough team and they really picked up their intensity in the second half. It’s definitely fun coming back. This is a good sports town and they’ve always treated their Indiana basketball players real well.”

On the Pacers
“I think they did a good job. They’re a tough team and they’re playing well together. You can tell because the chemistry is getting better every year. And I think they’re going to be right there at the end of the year.”
