Pelicans vs. Timberwolves: Postgame Quotes 11/14/14

Pelicans Head Coach Monty Williams

On the team’s performance:
“We played well. We shared the ball, 31 assists, 13 turn-overs, I thought we kept our rhythm with a big lead. The focus was great in practice this week. The focus was great in the shootaround, and there was a great effort again coming out of half-time. I just think the ball movement was awesome, our defense, we were awesome.”

On how he’s building up the team:
“I’m always thinking of ways to make the team better. We’re in the moment and I think the guys are starting to understand how to play like that. We don’t have a lot of experience there so I have to make sure that I keep everybody focused. Ryan (Anderson) was solid, Austin (Rivers) was solid. I thought he played a really good floor game tonight. It was just a big win for us.”

On if the team has been tested so far:
“We’ve been tested, we know what that feels like. We’ve played one of the toughest NBA schedules this season, just look at the teams we played, we had tests. I don’t care who it’s against, when you win it builds confidence and our guys are building confidence.”

Pelicans Guard Jrue Holiday:

On the team’s play tonight:
“We were on. We were on as a team more than just one person. I think that we kind of started off defensively very well, and, then offensively just took off. It was fun.”

On if he sensed that it was going to be a big night after he hit his first shot:
“Yeah, I knew that I was going to have a good shooting night. The first one, I think that I came down and shot a three. After that, I was like (to myself thinking), ‘That rim is kind of big right now.’ I tried to take advantage of that. I think that we executed well. We came off and actually got some open looks. It was kind of like running in practice.”

Pelicans Guard Austin Rivers:

On what it feels like to play in a record-setting game:
“It feels good to know that we can execute what we needed to do. The whole focus was that we wanted to get transition points and to try to get pretty good looks. I think that we did that tonight.”

On the great play of the bench players tonight:
“We just have to come out and be ready every game and be aggressive. It just seemed like we had a balanced effort. Everybody was around…A.D. (Anthony Davis) led the way as usual. My partner in crime, Ryan (Anderson played well). We have great chemistry right now. We enjoy playing with each other. When me and Ryan come in, we feel like it is kind of a tag team. We go out there play some defense and be aggressive and try to bring the energy that the starters (had).”
