New Orleans Pelicans at San Antonio Spurs Postgame Quotes | 11/23/22

Pelicans Head Coach Willie Green

Willie Green recaps big win vs. San Antonio | Pelicans vs. Spurs Postgame Interview 11/23/2022

(On the Pelicans defense…)

“First and foremost, it’s an absolute blessing to coach these guys. They’re fun to be around. It is hard to win in the NBA, especially coming into this building. The things that I mentioned to them is that we have to set the standard of who we want to be and what we want to achieve tonight. I thought we started the game with the right mindset. We held it through the rest of the game, which is hard to do. It’s just simple. Keeping teams out of the paint, making shots, rebounding balls and keep up good communication defensively. I’m proud of our guys on how we played defensively tonight.”

(On how they slowed the Spurs down…)

“I think the biggest thing is that we got stops. We forced them to take contested shots. They missed some shots because of our defense. We rebounded the ball and just got out and ran. It’s hard to play to your pace when we’re scoring and when we’re getting stops. That Spurs team, whoever steps on that court is well coached. They play hard and they competed hard tonight.”

Pelicans Forward Zion Williamson

(On how the team is playing in this point of the season…)

“Our defense has really been clicking. It just carried over to our offense.”

(On playing with Brandon Ingram…)

“I love playing with Brandon. He’s a special player. There are moments when coach will draw up a play and we’ll kind of look at each other a certain way. Like, if the ball goes in one of our hands, the other one is facilitating the court and telling players to get out the way. We really have this unspoken lingo on the court. You all see it. It just clicks.”

(On if he thought they were coming in to dominate the Spurs…)

“With a team like the Spurs, they got coach Pop. You can’t ever go into a game thinking that you’re about to dominate. You got to give them their respect. He’s the greatest coach, if not, one of the greatest. So, our game plan was to just lock in on what we were trying to do and stay locked in on defense.”
