Countdown to Pelicans training camp: 2 days

2: Number of 40-point games by Pelicans players last season

When Tyreke Evans and Anthony Davis scored 41 and 40 points, respectively, in separate games during the 2013-14 NBA campaign, they became only the second duo in New Orleans franchise history to reach the 40-point plateau in the same season. Evans (who is now out 3-5 weeks with a hamstring injury) closed the regular season in fine fashion; in Game 81, he posted his career high in scoring in a victory over the playoff-bound Oklahoma City Thunder. About a month earlier on March 16, Davis authored his top offensive game as a pro during a 40-point, 21-rebound eye-opener performance to help beat Boston 121-120 in overtime. The last two New Orleans players to score 40-plus in the same season were Chris Paul and David West.

The only other player on the current Pelicans roster who has scored at least 40 points in an NBA game is Eric Gordon, who piled up 41 points early in his career as a member of the Los Angeles Clippers. The next-best career high is John Salmons’ 38 points, done on two separate occasions while playing for Chicago and Sacramento. In addition to Evans and Davis breaking their career highs in scoring last season with New Orleans, Ryan Anderson (36) also set a new individual standard in 2013-14. Jrue Holiday’s top NBA game is 35 points, when he played for Philadelphia.
