14: Anthony Davis’ NBA rank in scoring average last season

Given everything that’s transpired over the past year, it’s easy to forget the gigantic leap Anthony Davis made offensively during his second NBA season. As a rookie in 2012-13, the University of Kentucky product finished just 81st among all players in the league in scoring, at 13.5 points per game. That figure ranked him fourth on his own team, behind Eric Gordon, Ryan Anderson and Greivis Vasquez.

In Year 2, Davis became a bona fide go-to option, eclipsing double figures virtually every contest he played that was not impacted by an in-game injury. He compiled one stretch of eight consecutive games of 28-plus points, a franchise record. His season average of 20.8 points was the best output by any New Orleans player since the 2008-09 campaign, when Chris Paul and David West averaged 22.8 and 21.0 points, respectively.

Davis’ breakthrough offensive performance placed him in a tie for 14th place with another recent No. 1 overall draft pick, Cleveland point guard Kyrie Irving.
