Hornets Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Monty Williams

On tonight’s play:
“I’m not happy about losing, but I am happy that our guys don’t back down from anybody. We were fighting a lot of stuff…we just have to play the game the right way and not worry about that.”

On tough and gritty defense:
“That’s who we are. If we deviate from that, we don’t have a chance. If you play hard and you do things the right way, along with trying to have a good attitude, you never know. We just play hard, and we defend. I felt like we didn’t get the calls I thought we deserved, but that happens in an NBA game. The refs aren’t perfect. Our guys fought through that. Although I am upset about the loss, I am happy about the way our guys played.”

Hornets Guard Greivis Vasquez

On tonight’s play:
“It was a tough 4th quarter. I thought we handed them the game tonight. I take responsibility for careless turnovers, where Chris [Paul] took the ball from me. We played extremely well, we fought all game. We played hard, but we came up short. You have to give them credit, they won the game. They played harder than us in the last couple minutes; we just couldn’t close the deal.”

On the hard foul:
“It’s part of the game. I just felt a tough screen. Reggie’s [Evans] a tough guy. I thought to myself, ‘Man, c’mon.’ But it’s nothing personal. As a young guy in the NBA, you can learn from this. It was a fun game overall.”

Hornets Guard Eric Gordon

On tonight’s play:
“It was a fun game. We had them towards the end of the game, but they hit a lot of big shots at the end. I just liked how our team played tonight. We play physical. We’re not here to hurt anybody. We just play basketball and we play to win and so do they. We both played hard, and it was just a good matchup.”

On the Clippers’ result in playoffs:
“I think they’ll do fine. We’ll see what happens. They very talented of course and they are very deep. There are a lot of talented teams in the West.”

Clippers Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Vinny Del Negro

On the Clippers’ play tonight:
“I don’t think we played very well. Our effort, our energy, our attitude, and our intensity were not good for about forty minutes and then, in the last eight minutes or so, Reggie [Evans] came in and gave us a huge boost. Eric Bledsoe picked it up and Randy Foye made some big shots. Obviously, Chris [Paul] was all over the place and causing havoc.”

On Chris Paul as an MVP candidate:
“There’s no question; anyone who watches basketball knows how valuable a player he is to a team and to an organization. He’s a competitive player - he had eight steals today - and he’s playing to the last buzzer. He’s a dominant player and that’s why he’s a star player in this league. He changes the complexion of the game.”

On the mental and physical tiredness:
“We were very sluggish today. We were able to gut it out. I’m proud of the guys, the way they stayed together and got the W. All these games are so important. I’m happy we got the win, and now we can get on the road and hopefully get refocused and regrouped, knowing how important these next two are, and go from there. We want to be playing our best basketball here at the end of the season, which we have been. I wouldn’t say today was our best moment, but the result was.”

On tonight’s win:
“We gutted it out and we didn’t turn it over a lot, which helped us. We didn’t shoot well; we didn’t do a lot of things well. But we got the win, which is the most important thing. Now, we get on the plane and finish it up in Atlanta and New York.”

Clippers Forward Reggie Evans

On tonight’s win:
“We executed well out there tonight. Chris [Paul] managed to get buckets or find somebody like Randy [Foye] and he knocked them down. We played aggressive defense by keeping their guards out of the paint and we rebounded the basketball.”

On the difference between the third and fourth quarters:
“We didn’t really play Clipper basketball in the third quarter. We kind of relaxed and New Orleans did a good job of recognizing that we were relaxed and they took advantage of it. But eventually we woke up and managed to pull it out. We have to have a better mindset than what we did tonight going into the playoffs.”

Clippers Guard Chris Paul

On turning the game around in the fourth quarter:
“We turned it up on the defensive end and we got stops. We were also able to get out in transition and work the ball screen. But Randy Foye hit some big shots for us tonight.”

On Randy Foye’s performance:
“He was amazing out there for us tonight. He was able to hit big shot after big shot and also he was able to get into the lane and convert.”

On being part of the MVP conversation:
“It is cool but I think more about our team. I would rather have a championship than MVP any day.”
