Hornets Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Monty Williams

You gave one of the best teams in the league a run for their money on their home floor:
“To me that's fool's gold. We should have won that game. Our players competed tonight for 48 minutes, but our execution down the stretch was less than what it should be in situations like that. The best team, the worst team, I don't want to get caught up in that. If you allow that to filter in, you think you can show up tomorrow at the gym and win the game. We're not that kind of team. We competed, but we put ourselves in holes tonight. We were fighting back from 11, 9,...that's hard. At the end of games if you're looking for foul calls you're not going to get it on the road. We did compete, we did put ourselves in position to win the game. But at the same time, for us to grow, and become the team and organization I think we can be you have to close games like that out."

It didn't come down (to the last play). When you give a team 60 points in the paint, that's deflating. That's a straight up bully job. They played in our paint all night long. Derrick Rose had to play 41 minutes to beat us tonight, but if you give a team 60 points in the paint, it's hard to come back from that. Based on all of the things we have been through, that's in our past, our identity has to be a team that plays hard for 48 minutes. I thought we played hard for 44 minutes. I thought we had some lulls tonight where we turned the ball over. We had some possessions where we couldn't get a shot off, all those points in the paint, to me that is not who we are. We compete and we compete harder than any team in the league, and that's what we have to stand on.”

Hornets Guard Xavier Henry

On the game tonight:
“I was trying to be aggressive tonight. Solomon played good tonight, Jarrett Jack played good tonight, but we just need to be more aggressive, we could have had this game. We wanted it more, we played hard, we fought back, and stayed in it until the end, but things just didn't go our way in the end. It was a good game, but it was a learning experience for all of us.”

Bulls Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Tom Thibodeau

On struggling to get control defensively:
“The turnovers really hurt us. They did a real good job of attacking the basket and as a result they got to the line. We were closing to their drives not under control. As a result they had a lot of free throws early. We will take the win.”

Were they a welcome challenge or a wake-up call?
“Both, they are playing a lot better. We played them down in New Orleans when they had a lot of injuries. Now they are playing with a lot of confidence. When they get some guys back from injury, they should be ok. They're a very good team that plays hard and plays together. Vasquez and Jarrett Jack do a good job running the team and Ayon was very active. They are tough.”

Do you want Hamilton at about 17 minutes?
“That is hard to read. Rip has been out so long, we were able to get a baseline of where he is at. We have to go step by step. We'll see if he plays tomorrow. He's not had any set backs after the shootaround and the contact. If he is ready to go, he'll play tomorrow. We had some guys playing really well off the bench. Ronnie Brewer had some big defensive plays down the stretch and the shot blocking by Taj was huge."

On Derrick Rose taking charge at the end:
“That's who he is. Derrick figures out what you need whether it's playmaking or scoring. He also had some very good play down the stretch.”

Bulls Forward Taj Gibson

On the last 2 minutes:
“We understood that we needed to get a few stops. We were talking good to each other on defense and that allowed us to get the stops. Guys came in off the bench and did their job and Derrick hit a really good shot and a few free throws.”

On San Antonio:
“It's going to be a grind and honestly we are going to have to play better than we did tonight. We have to play with poise and hopefully we will come out with a win.”

Bulls Forward Luol Deng

On tomorrow's game:
“From the start, we have to play with energy. They have some guys with a lot of talent and a lot of experience. We will have to play a complete game.”

On Joakim playing well:
“Jo has been playing great. He's been playing with a lot of energy and he got a lot of big rebounds tonight. He was playing really well and with that same energy level before the break.”

Bulls Guard Derrick Rose

Were you surprised with the type of game tonight?
“We started pretty good but towards the end we let them back in and they made a run. But it worked out for us in the end.”

On the win:
“We definitely held it together. Other teams may have folded in a situation lite that. We stayed together and played good defense and in the end got the win.”

On having Rip Hamilton back in the line-up:
“Definitely, like I've said, when he's out there, we just have to learn to hit open shots because that's what's going to happen anytime he is on the court.”
