New Orleans Pelicans sixth man Tyreke Evans, who was limited to just five minutes of playing time Monday vs. San Antonio due to a rib injury, won't play tonight against Atlanta.

“We think it’s a cartilage injury,” Pelicans fourth-year coach Monty Williams said. “Somehow it may have a split in (the cartilage). It happens to players. It’s an injury that hurts really badly for a week, and then it goes away and heals.”

Evans is unsure of exactly when the injury occurred, but the fifth-year NBA wing appeared to wince after dribbling into the lane and making a pass across his body during Monday’s game.

“It could be a day-to-day thing; it could be a week,” Williams said of Evans’ status to return.
