Frank Vogel helped lead the Pacers to two Eastern Conference Finals as coach of the Pacers, and on Monday night, he'll be introduced as the visiting head coach for the Orlando Magic.

Vogel's tenure as head coach ended at the conclusion of last season, when the Pacers fell in seven games to the Toronto Raptors in the first round of the playoffs. It wasn't long before the Magic reached out and hired Vogel to coach a group that isn't unlike the situation he walked into when he took over for Jim O'Brien midway through the 2010-11 season; loaded with talent and needing a way to make the puzzle pieces fit.

It was of course assistant coach Nate McMillan who took the reigns of the head coaching job in Indiana. Like Vogel, McMillan has also been searching for a way to fit together his team thus far, which features several new players and personalities.

After dropping both games of a back-to-back, the first an overtime loss in Philly, the second a battle with Boston, Indiana is looking for solutions while dealing with uncertainty.

On Friday, McMillan seemed to be searching for balance by making a change to the starting lineup. He slotted C.J. Miles in and played Monta Ellis off the bench, saying that the second unit needed another playmaker besides Al Jefferson. But the following night, with Paul George on the bench (sprained left ankle), Indiana was forced to use another new rotation of players, making chemistry a difficult task.

Even before it was confirmed that George wasn't going to play, McMillan seemed to signal that they would return to the starting lineup with Ellis at shooting guard and Jeff Teague at the point.

On Monday, questions linger about the health of George's ankle, and whether or not he'll be able to suit up to play against the coach who oversaw his three All-Star appearances, two Eastern Conference Finals, and a full recovery from a broken leg.

But whether in a suit or a uniform, it's a safe bet that PG will be among the thousands of fans giving Vogel — the longest tenured coach in franchise history — a warm reception for his contributions to the team over the course of his six seasons as head coach.

Last Meeting

March 31, 2016: In what was a dispiriting loss for the Pacers, Indiana fell 114-94 to the Magic, leaving hopes of the postseason in jeopardy.

Coming into the game, the Pacers were trailing the Pistons by a half game in the playoff hunt, and the Magic's runaway victory on the Pacers' home floor didn't do Indiana any favors.

Paul George led the team in scoring with 27, but after a late layup by Ty Lawson closed the gap to 12, the Magic stepped on the gas for a final 7-0 run to put the game away once and for all.

The Magic defense was relentless, forcing the Pacers in 19 turnovers.

  • Myles Turner is currently tied for second in the NBA with 2.5 blocks per game.
  • C.J. Miles' 3-point percentage of .490 is third in the NBA.
  • Indiana has won 11 of the last 13 meetings with the Magic.
