After nearly two seasons on a two-way contract that was converted to an NBA deal midway through the 2018-19 season, Edmond Sumner signed a two-year contract with the Pacers with a team option for a third season last summer.

Sumner appeared in 31 games in the regular season, starting three. The 6-4 guard averaged 4.9 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 14.4 minutes per game.

Though injuries and a crowded backcourt limited his playing time for much of the season, Sumner saw increased minutes during the NBA restart in Orlando. He played in six of the eight seeding games, averaging 6.3 points and 2.7 assists in 17 minutes per game. He had a season-high 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting, four rebounds, and four assists in a win over the Rockets on Aug. 12.

Sumner also saw the court in the playoff series with Miami. Victor Oladipo’s eye injury and Aaron Holiday’s foul trouble pressed him into 27 minutes of action in Game 1, where he tallied six points and six rebounds. He did not play in Game 2, but logged four minutes in Game 3, and 10 minutes in Game 4.
