New additions arrive as Nuggets take on Chicago Bulls

Newly acquired Aaron Brooks, Jan Vesely could make debuts

The Denver Nuggets are about to get reinforcements. The timing of their arrival couldn’t be better.

Newly acquired guard Aaron Brooks and forward Jan Vesely could be in uniform Friday night when the Nuggets complete a back-to-back set against the Chicago Bulls at the United Center.

Brooks, brought in from Houston at Thursday’s NBA trade deadline, will provide needed help in the backcourt as starting point guard Ty Lawson continues to recover from a fractured rib. Backup guard Nate Robinson is out for the season following knee surgery.

Shooting guard Randy Foye has been running the offense, but will welcome the assistance from Brooks until Lawson returns.

“Me and Ty always talk about it after every game,” Foye said. “I always say, ‘When are you coming back? Hurry up!’ It’s tough getting everybody in their spots.”

Foye did a nice job running the offense Thursday night, posting his second double-double of the season (14 points, 10 assists) in a victory over the Milwaukee Bucks. Kenneth Faried led all scorers with 26 points as Denver snapped its five-game losing streak.

The Nuggets will need another strong performance against the Bulls, who have won four straight and 16 of their past 23 games since Jan. 1. Chicago is second in the NBA in scoring defense at 97.8 points allowed.

Denver scored 97 against the Bulls in a 10-point victory over Chicago on Nov. 21.
