Two-time cancer survivor aims to support cancer advocacy groups
DENVER, March 8, 2012 — Denver Nuggets Head Coach George Karl today announced the formation of the George Karl Foundation, a nonprofit organization created to support causes and organizations important to Karl and his family.
Karl outlined several intended beneficiaries, including the new Boulder Community Hospital inpatient cancer wing, MyLifeLine.org, and the Cancer Care Initiative.
“Throughout my cancer treatment and beyond, I have been privileged to meet so many people with a driving passion for causes, including those that assist cancer patients’ experience,” said Karl. “I believe we can combine that passion with my advocacy and the support of this foundation to create significant positive results and make a real difference.”
The George Karl Foundation’s first fundraising effort is a partnership with the second annual B Strong Ride, a Boulder-based cycling event sponsored by Celestial Seasonings which also serves as a fundraiser for LIVESTRONG and the new Boulder Community Hospital inpatient cancer wing. In 2011, B Strong Ride’s first year, the event won honors as LIVESTRONG’s top national Partnered Event.
The event is Saturday, August 11, 2012 and features three route options, all starting and finishing at Celestial Seasonings’ Boulder headquarters:
B Strong will also feature live musical entertainment throughout the day and after the rides are over, with prominent local talent slated to perform.
Registration for the 2012 B Strong Ride is currently open. For more information about B STRONG Ride or to register, visit www.bstrongride.com.
