License Plate Delays

March 20th, 2020

Due to COVID-19 concerns and an equipment malfunction with the Colorado Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) vendor’s “Print-on-Demand” machine, the DMV is experiencing delays in production of print-on-demand license plates. This includes the Denver Nuggets license plates. The DMV does not expect to resume printing before the end of May 2020.

Please note that all DMV office locations are currently closed. If you need assistance with your license plates, you are still able to contact the DMV by phone or web request. Click here for details on how to contact the DMV. Click here for the most up to date information regarding COVID-19 & the Colorado DMV. The following information is subject to change given this unprecedented time. We thank you for your understanding and patience.

If you have purchased Nuggets plates and redeemed your pin or certificate through the DMV, please note the following information:

  • You should have received a “Notice of Print-on-Demand License Plate order delay” in the mail, courtesy of the Colorado Department of Revenue Division of Motor Vehicles. Please keep this letter in your vehicle, as the DMV requests in said letter.
  • The letter outlines when you can expect to receive your plates in the mail (subject to change), along with steps to take until the DMV is able to issue your license plates.
  • If you’ve redeemed your pin or certificate and have yet to receive a “Notice of Print-on-Demand License Plate order delay” letter in the mail, you can contact the DMV by phone or web request.
  • Your Denver Nuggets plates will be mailed to you as soon as possible, once the DMV is able to resume printing of specialty license plates.

If you have purchased Nuggets plates but have NOT yet redeemed your pin or certificate through the DMV, please note the following information:

  • If you were issued a pin number:
    • While your pin number will not expire, it is recommended that you use the DMV’s web services to redeem your pin number as soon as possible. You will only be placed in the queue to have your Denver Nuggets plates printed once you have redeemed your pin number.
    • Once you redeem your pin number a “Notice of Print-on-Demand License Plate order delay” will be mailed to you from the Colorado Department of Revenue Division of Motor Vehicles. Once you receive this letter, please keep it in your vehicle, as the DMV requests in said letter.
    • Your Denver Nuggets plates will be mailed to you as soon as possible, once the DMV is able to resume printing of specialty license plates.
  • If you were issued a certificate:
    • Certificates can only be redeemed in person, and all DMV offices are currently closed due to COVID-19 concerns. A certificate cannot be redeemed using the DMV’s web services.
    • These certificates do not expire and will be valid for you to redeem at DMV locations once they reopen.
    • You will only be placed in the queue to have your Denver Nuggets plates printed once you have redeemed a certificate or pin number.
    • Given these unprecedented circumstances, if you prefer not to wait for DMV locations to reopen to redeem your certificate, Kroenke Sports Charities will issue you a pin number. Pin numbers can be redeemed online at any time via the DMV’s web services. If you have received a certificate in the mail and would like to receive a pin number instead, please contact Kroenke Sports Charities at CommunityRelations@TeamKSE.com. In your email please include the first and last name of the purchaser.
