Barton out at least 6 weeks after having hip, core surgery
From NBA media reports
On a historic night in which he was serenaded with “MVP!” chants for his eye-popping triple-double, Nikola Jokic’s thoughts were with the Denver Nuggets’ injured tone-setter.
Nuggets versatile forward Will Barton missed Denver’s game Sunday night against Golden State because of a right hip injury. The team announced on Monday that he was diagnosed with a right hip and core strain. In a statement Tuesday morning, the Nuggets said Barton underwent successful surgery on the injuries and that the procedure was performed by Dr. William Meyers at the Vincera Institute in Philadelphia, Pa. Barton’s status will be re-evaluated in six weeks.
Barton was carted off the court Saturday after feeling something pop when he took off for the basket during the third quarter of a win over Phoenix. He underwent an MRI on Sunday morning.
Barton signed a four-year deal to remain in Denver over the summer. He averaged 15.7 points and 4.1 assists last season. On Sunday, Yahoo Sports reported that Barton was diagnosed with a groin injury, with his recovery timeline yet to be determined.
