Game Recap: Trail Blazers 93, Jazz 78

LAS VEGAS — The Portland Trail Blazers defeated the Utah Jazz, 93-78, in Las Vegas Summer League at Cox Pavillion on Saturday.

This was a dominating performance for Portland, as they held the lead for all but one minute. The first and third quarters were the difference, with the Trail Blazers outscoring the Jazz, 48-32. In addition, Portland led by at least seven points for the final 16 minutes of action. Shooting was key, with Portland connecting on 50 percent of their shots while holding Utah to just 39 percent from the field. Getting to the free-throw line was also critical, with the Trail Blazers connecting on 19-of-25 while the Jazz hit just 8-of-10 from the charity stripe.

The Trail Blazers (1-0) were led by Wade Baldwin IV, as he collected 20 points, three rebounds and five assists on 9-of-13 from the field. Caleb Swanigan finished with 11 points, 13 rebounds and five assists. Jake Layman amassed 14 points and six boards. Gary Trent Jr. led the bench with 16 points and three rebounds.

The Jazz (0-1) had four players reach double figures in scoring, but no other player on the roster scored more than four points. Grayson Allen was their best player, as he accumulated 16 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Georges Niang totaled 16 points and two boards. Tony Bradley provided 16 points and six boards while Stanton Kidd generated 13 points and four rebounds.

On deck for Portland is a matchup versus the Miami Heat on Sunday. As for Utah, they face the New York Knicks on Sunday as well.
