Free-agent point guard Elfrid Payton will join the New Orleans Pelicans on a one-year contract, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Sunday.

Payton averaged 12.8 points last season, his fourth in the NBA, in stints with the Magic and Suns.
Marc Stein of the New York Times reports that the Pelicans will also attempt to retain free-agent point guard Rajon Rondo, who helped the Pelicans reach the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 2008.
