Report: Phoenix Suns will sit Brandon Knight for rest of season

Move comes day after team decides to put Eric Bledsoe on bench for balance of the season

The race to the bottom continues as the Suns seem intent on keeping pace with the Lakers in the quest for the best chance of winning the draft lottery.

Phoenix coach Earl Watson said before Friday’s game against the Magic that guard Brandon Knight will not play for the rest of the season. The 6-3 guard is averaging 11 points per game, but has not played at all since the All-Star break in mid-February.

The Suns also this week held out guard Eric Bledsoe, who is tied for the team lead in scoring (21.1 ppg.) in a loss to the Kings and he, too, is shelved. Veteran center Tyson Chandler also has not played since Feb. 15.

“Management decision,” Watson told the Arizona Republic when asked why Bledsoe sat.

The Lakers earlier in the week announced that they would sit veterans Luol Deng and Timofey Mozgov in order to get playing time the rest of the way for all of their young players.

Going into Friday night’s play, the Lakers (20-48) and Suns (22-46) had the second- and third-worst records in the NBA, putting them in line for high picks in a draft that is considered to be loaded with high level talent.
