With over 5,000 players in NBA history, at least one player was born on every day of the calendar year – including three leap day ballers. Our day-by-day breakdown of the players born on each day of the year continues.
Below are the most notable NBA players born on Sept 22.
Gary Trent (Sept. 22, 1974): Selected with the 11th overall pick in the 1995 NBA Draft by Milwaukee and traded to Portland on draft night, Trent played nine NBA seasons for four teams – the Trail Blazers (1995-98), Raptors (1998), Mavericks (1999-2001) and Timberwolves (2001-04). The 6-foot-8, 250-pound forward – known as the Shaq of the MAC during his college years at Ohio University – accumulated 4,366 points (8.6 ppg) and 2,276 rebounds (4.5) over 506 career NBA games before finishing his career overseas. His son, Gary Trent Jr., was drafted with the 37th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft and enters the 2024-25 season with the Milwaukee Bucks. In a bit of deja vu, both Gary Trent Sr. and Jr. were traded to Portland on draft night and subsequently traded from Portland to Toronto exactly 41 games into their third respective seasons.
