LAS VEGAS — Johnathan Motley scored 20 points off the bench to lead the Dallas Mavericks to an 81-78 victory against the Milwaukee Bucks in the Las Vegas Summer League at Cox Pavilion on Sunday.
Johnathan Motley, who played 11 games with the Mavericks last season when not in the G League, shot 8-of-10 from the field and grabbed seven rebounds.
Tied 72-72 with 5:14 to play, the Mavericks went on a 7-0 to put the Bucks away, three points coming from Motley. Milwaukee cut the lead to three but could get no closer. Dallas’ defense keyed the victory, recorded 15 steals and six blocked shots.
Dorian Finney-Smith totaled 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists for the Mavericks (1-1). Dennis Smith Jr. had 10 points, seven assists and four steals, while Jalen Brown finished with nine points and nine boards.
Four Bucks starters reached double figures, but the Milwaukee bench was outscored, 34-18. Travis Trice II scored a team-leading 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field. Sterling Brown had 14 points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Jordan Barnett finished with 13 points, and Christian Wood totaled 10 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and three blocks.
Both teams return to action on Monday, with Dallas playing the Golden State Warriors and Milwaukee facing the Denver Nuggets.
