In the 1968-69 season, the NBA continued to grow its footprint across the United States. As part of that growth, the league added a new franchise in the midwest: the Milwaukee Bucks.
On Jan. 22, 1968, the NBA’s Board of Governors awarded a franchise to Milwaukee. Nine months later, the franchise — named the Bucks — played its first game on Oct. 16, 1968. Overall, Milwaukee went 27-55 that inaugural season, which was the second-worst finish in the NBA in 1968-69. However, the rough times didn’t last long for the Bucks.
Milwaukee quickly became successful and, by 1971, Lew Alcindor and Oscar Robertson helped Milwaukee became the fastest expansion team to win a championship in any major pro sport. Additionally, from 1970-71 to 1990-91, the Bucks posted only 3 losing seasons.
