Dorian Finney-Smith is shooting a career-high 44% from 3-point range this season. Could this be the move before the move?
The Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to trade D’Angelo Russell and Maxwell Lewis to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Dorian Finney-Smith and Shake Milton, the teams announced Sunday. The Lakers will also send three future second-round picks to the Nets in the trade.

The Lakers bolster their wing depth by adding forward Finney-Smith, who is shooting a career-high 44% from 3-point range and averaging 10.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 2024-25 so far. Milton, a steady point guard in his seventh NBA season, is averaging 7.4 points and 2.4 assists over 27 games with Brooklyn.
Russell is back for his second stint with the Nets, spending two seasons with Brooklyn from 2017-2019. The 28-year-old has appeared in 29 games (10 starts) for the Lakers this season, recording averages of 12.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists in 26.3 minutes per game.
Lewis has appeared in seven games for the Lakers this season. In 41 career games off the bench for the Lakers across two seasons (2023-24), he has averaged 3.2 minutes per contest.
