Jared McCain has emerged as a bright spot amidst a struggling start for the Philadelphia 76ers.

Entering Friday’s slate, where the 76ers will take on the Nets at Wells Fargo Center (7 ET, League Pass), McCain is expected to remain the starting shooting guard alongside Tyrese Maxey in the backcourt.

The numbers back up his status as a starter, as he’s averaging 25.8 points, 5.8 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals across 36.8 minutes per game since joining the first unit.

It’s not just about the production since being promoted to a starting role. He’s on a streak of six consecutive appearances with at least 20 points, and seven with 15 or more points. He’s also averaged 19.8 points per game, while shooting 48.3% from the field and 43.2% from 3-point range since November.

Despite being a rookie, he’s earned a steady role in an offense that needs all the help it can get to overcome a slow start. And even though the season hasn’t gone as expected, the emergence of McCain as a potential long-term core piece could end up being a blessing in disguise for the 76ers.
