Game Recap: Heat 89, Lakers 74

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Miami Heat defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 89-74 at the California Classic Summer League at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento on Tuesday.

A 31-19 first quarter advantage for Miami really set the tone in this game, as the Heat dominated the rest of the contest. In fact, Miami led by 19 points at the half and by 29 points heading into the fourth quarter, with the game never getting within a 12-point margin following the first quarter. Ball movement was critical for the Heat, considering they recorded 27 assists while the Lakers mustered up just 14 of their own. Defense was also huge, as Miami recorded 15 steals and eight blocks while forcing 20 turnovers from Los Angeles.

The Heat (1-1) were led by Derrick Jones Jr., as he tallied 21 points, five rebounds and three steals. Duncan Robinson finished with 19 points, four rebounds and two assists on 7-of-9 shooting from the field. Bam Adebayo totaled nine points and 10 rebounds while Daryl Macon accrued eight points, two rebounds and 11 assists. Yante Maten led the bench with 15 points, five boards and four steals.

The Lakers (0-2) highest scorer had just 12 points, as Svi Mykhailiuk collected 12 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Xavier Rathan-Mayes tallied nine points, two rebounds and five assists. Demarcus Holland led the bench with 10 points and two boards.

Both teams return to action Thursday, with Los Angeles playing the Golden State Warriors and Miami facing off with the Sacramento Kings.
