“Memories Are Forever”

HBCU Student Showcase: Zahara McCoy

Artwork Theme: HBCU Experience & Pride

This artwork was inspired by my memories of attending significant events at my school
and having a lovely time. When attending an HBCU you can feel the love that the
students have for their school and the support they give no matter what event is
occurring. The picture of the basketball player was inspired by my brother who was a
basketball player – a 5’8 guard going up against a 6’7 post player. You can go against
any barriers or burdens in your life and not be afraid to face them. The other picture of
the homecoming King and Queen is a representation of black love because we don’t
see it enough in the world. Even though they aren’t together it’s a celebration
representing the kings and queens that we are.
