The Phoenix Suns have established themselves as one of the NBA’s elite squads — and not just out West — after a quick season start that included a franchise-record 18 straight wins.
But they had to find another avenue inside, as center Deandre Ayton was ruled out for Friday’s action with a non-COVID illness.
JaVale McGee got the start and took advantage, dropping 21 points (9-16 FGs), 15 rebounds and two blocks in 26 minutes. Jalen Smith also saw an uptick in minutes, playing 21 off the bench and chipping in seven points, nine rebounds, an assist, a steal and two blocks.

Monty Williams said they got Deandre Ayton off the floor this morning once it was clear he wasn’t feeling well and he got worse throughout the day.
When asked about Jalen Smith potentially playing tonight he said “we’ll see.”
