Report: Anthony Davis could return next week after visiting hand specialist

New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis could return as early as next week after he received relatively good news during his visit with hand specialists on Wednesday, according to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Earlier reports indicated Davis could miss up to a month if the injury — a volar plate avulsion fracture on his left index finger — had been more severe. Davis will now be “re-evaluated every 48 to 72 hours”, according to his agent Rich Paul.

Davis was injured while swiping at the ball on defense late in the Pelicans’ 128-112 loss to the Blazers on Friday.

The Kentucky product is averaging 29.3 points, 13.3 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 1.7 steals and 2.6 blocks in his seventh season.
