Pistons' Andre Drummond playing in Mexico City game after suffering allergic reaction

Andre Drummond can grab 20 rebounds and anchor an NBA defense. He just can’t eat avocados.

After arriving in Mexico City for Thursday’s game against Dallas, Drummond accidentally consumed the fruit and was a game-time decision due to the allergic reaction that followed. He recovered in time to start.

“He came into practice [on Wednesday] and his eyes were all swollen,” said Pistons coach Dwane Casey. “I thought he had gotten ahold of some bad tequila or something, but he doesn’t drink tequila. He had a bad reaction to [avocados]. He was going to try to get his contacts in. He was trying to let it rest as much as possible.”

Drummond wore sunglasses throughout the NBA Cares clinic immediately following Detroit’s practice on Wednesday. He fully participated in the clinic, however.

The two-time All-Star is averaging a league-leading 16.7 rebounds and a career-high 17.5 points per game.
