Every era of the franchise’s history is represented in the 2021-22 Nike Brooklyn Nets City Edition uniform. Founded as the New Jersey Americans in 1967 before changing their name and moving to Long Island a year later, the Nets put those stars & stripes right into their look while they were winning ABA championships with the legendary Julius Erving. A new core in the 1980s stuck together while building a family atmosphere and making five straight playoff trips in New Jersey, while the early ‘90s Nets were led by Hall of Fame coaches and All-NBA stars. The back-to-back NBA Finals trips in 2002 and 2003 started a run of four division titles in five years and six straight playoff appearances. Since moving to Brooklyn in 2012, the Nets have six playoff appearances in nine seasons, with new history waiting to be built on the court at Barclays Center.
Five decades of Nets history have come together in this season’s City Edition uniform, and these are the stories of the teams that inspired generations of fans. They launched new eras in the franchise’s history and delivered playoff thrills. They looked good doing it, too. Check out the seasons whose styles provided the inspiration for the 2021-22 Nike Brooklyn Nets City Edition uniform.
