Q&A with Tamika Catchings

1. What do you do during the off season to stay in shape and improve your game? During the offseason I try to first let my body rest and then when I get back into it, do things outside of basketball. I've taken up swimming and Buda Khi to stay active and build strength outside of my basketball workouts.

2. How do you motivate yourself to work out and what do you do to keep your workouts from getting boring? I motivate myself by setting goals and knowing what I want to accomplish. The goals and being self-motivated allow me to keep my workouts from getting boring as well. Also, I try to mix up my days with a variety of things and different exercises so that I don't get bored.

3. What type of exercises do you do to help build your endurance? Buda Khi, swimming and doing my court workouts help build my endurance. I try not to do too much in the offseason, so that by the time the regular season comes along, we are ramping up the workouts to prepare for practice, games and the season.

1. What do you eat for breakfast to get you going for the day? I normally eat a bowl of cereal, a piece of wheat toast with peanut butter and a small glass of orange juice. That seems to be the perfect amount on my stomach before workouts.

2. What is your favorite pre-game meal? How do you recharge after a tough workout? My favorite pre-game meal is grilled chicken, mashed potatoes and broccoli. I recharge after a tough workout by drinking plenty of fluids and trying to get a good meal within the hour after workouts.

1. What types of activities did you use to do with your family to stay healthy when you were a kid? We used to do a lot of activities when we were younger. My mom and dad were very active so we did a lot of sports, dance classes, ballet and other stuff. But, as a family we would do a lot of outdoor activities. Basketball was a family favorite even though my mom didn't play.

2. When you were growing up, what were some of your favorite activities that you did with your friends? Some activities that we did with my friends and kids in the neighborhood while we were growing up involved "Night" Games where we would all be out coming up with cool games to play at night time. Our block was the fun block and we always had something going on outside.
