Q&A with Muggsy Bogues

1. Can you talk a little bit about what being a member of the NBA/WNBA FIT Team means to you? It means a great deal because of what the team represents. Healthy, active lifestyles for kids and adults. As a member, I am honored to play a role.

2. What is one cool fact fans would be interested to know about you? I'm a great ping pong player.

3. During your time in the NBA, you were constantly staying active between practices and games. What did you do during the offseason to stay in shape and improve your skills for the next season? My workout consists of: upper and lower body weight training, on-court drills (ball-handling and shooting), and swimming laps for my cool down.

4. With such a busy travel and game schedule, how did you manage to eat healthy? What did your diet look like on a typical game day? Did you get enough sleep? Fish, chicken and pasta was my choice of meal. I wasn't big into red meat.

5. When you were growing up, how important was it for you to stay active and play sports? Aside from basketball, what other sports did you play? Growing up, computer games weren't around - the outdoors was our playground. Aside from basketball, I played football, baseball and wrestling.

6. What do you do now to stay in shape? Do you still play basketball? What do you do to keep your workouts from getting boring? I am a high school coach now, so sometimes I have flashback moments. To keep my workouts from getting boring I ride my bike.

7. How important is it for children to be active? What messages do your share with them at the events you do about fitness and nutrition? It's imperative. Obesity will sneak up on our youth without them realizing it. As parents, we must encourage our kids to play more outdoors instead of playing on the computer.

8. Staying active is a lot more fun when the whole family is involved. What types of activities did you do with your family to stay healthy? I do a lot of basketball drills (suicides, defensive slides, etc.).

9. A healthy breakfast is a very important meal because it fuels your body with energy to help you focus and perform throughout the day. What do you eat for breakfast to get you going for the day? I have two eggs, french toast or pancakes, hash browns and orange juice.
