Phoenix Suns at Los Angeles Clippers
- Leg 1: Suns -5 (-105)
- Leg 2: Kevin Durant 25+ Points (-120)
- Leg 3: James Harden 23+ Points (-115)
We are going to see a different Clippers this season. For one, they have their own place to call home for the first time in their 40 years as a franchise. Second, they lost a big part of their offense as Paul George left in free agency, along with Russell Westbrook.
The big debut will feel a little small. It’s not like they aren’t used to it, but they will be missing Kawahi Leonard. Last year was the first time he played over 60 games in four seasons with the team (68), and he’s also played in only eight of the Clippers’ last 22 playoff games.
The question for the Suns going into the offseason was if they would unload their three stars. They decided to keep Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal and signed Devin Booker to a new deal. Instead, they changed the supporting cast and added Tyus Jones, Monte Morris, and Mason Plumlee.
Phoenix was tenth in points per game last year (115.6), and from their moves, it looks like they are going all in to try to out-score their opponents every night. As a result, they could be a bottom-tier defense this season.
Under Ty Lue, the Clippers had one of their better defensive teams and were 11th in points allowed per game (111.8). They will be missing some depth, as Mo Bamba, P.J. Tucker, and Leonard will be out. That will help Durant on the wing, and he could have a great night. This should allow James Harden to be the first offensive option for Los Angeles.

Orlando Magic at Miami Heat
- Leg 1: Under 208 (-110)
- Leg 2: Paolo Banchero Over 22.5 Points (-105)
- Leg 3: Miami Heat Under 104.5 Total Points (-115)
The Magic were among the more surprising teams last year, adding 13 wins from their previous season to earn a playoff spot. They will try to build on that with Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner, and they brought in Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who has recently won two NBA championships (Lakers 2020, Nuggets 2023).
They weren’t the most explosive offense, but that defense that allowed the second-fewest points (107.4) kept them in contention almost every night to where Banchero and Wagner could carry them.
The Heat’s season ended in disappointment and a lot of tension. They lost to the eventual champion Celtics in five games. That wasn’t the biggest story of that series; Jimmy Butler missed it with an injury, but that didn’t stop him from saying they would win the series after the Game 2 victory. That brought tension between him and the team, and many believed he was gone. If Miami gets off to a bad start, don’t be surprised if Butler is on the trading block.
