Mavericks vs. Nets Odds & Picks: Shockingly Slow Starts for Both Teams

Luka Doncic, one of the favorites for MVP, is showing why he is one of the favorites.

Not many people could have correctly predicted the Nets to be 1-3 to start the season.  They are also coming off a tough loss when they were outscored by fellow title contender Milwaukee by 23 points in the second half to lose by 11 points.

Luka Doncic, one of the favorites for MVP, is showing why he is one of the favorites.  After Jalen Brunson left for the Knicks this summer Luka has started the season averaging 34.7 points and 7.7 assists.  The Mavericks will go as Luka goes this season.  After hitting the game-winning shot Tuesday he is carrying a ton of confidence into the Brooklyn match-up.

Mavericks vs. Nets Best Bets

Nets -2.5 (-115, DraftKings)

The Nets may be 1-3 to start but they are one of the best teams in the league with superstars like Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.  Ben Simmons is still getting up to speed after being traded last year and lacing them up for the first time with the Nets this year.  Either way, I believe the Nets start to turn around the season tonight.  They had a great first 1H against one of the best teams in the league Tuesday night.  They are close to clicking and I think it clicks fully tonight with a big win.

The concern is always Luka.  Luka is having the best start to a season in his career and can change any game by himself.  There are few players in the league who can match the physicality and size of Luka’s game as a primary ball handler, but Simmons is one of the few.

I like the Nets to bounce back and get the win tonight.

JaVale McGee Over 4.5 Rebounds (+105, DraftKings)

In his three games this season, JaVale McGee has had 4, 6, and 2 total rebounds playing around 13 minutes per game.  In the last 4 seasons, JaVale has averaged 7.5, 5.7, 5.3, and 6.7 rebounds per game.  The Nets are 16th in field goal percentage and 27th in 3pt percentage so far this year.

There will be plenty of opportunities for McGee to grab defensive rebounds tonight.  Since this is plus money at +105 it is a no-brainer for me because this line is set based on the 3 previous games this season and not the larger data set of the last 4 seasons.
