The 2024-25 NBA season is just around the corner, and all 30 teams are looking forward to a fresh start. While only one team can win a championship, they all have some hope entering the year.
However, the latest NBA betting odds can help assess teams’ positions before the new campaign, particularly in the win totals market.
The BetMGM online sportsbook has had win totals up all offseason, and the notable movement can help tell us which teams might be better than expected and which teams might be worse.
For example, the Phoenix Suns have been the most-bet win total this offseason. Bettors believe in their chances this year, as 92% of bets have been on the over. This has caused their win total to climb from 46.5 to 47.5 after winning 49 games last year.
In addition, Suns head coach Mike Budenholzer, who is in his first year with the team, is the biggest liability in the Coach of the Year odds market. He has gone from +2500 to +1600 to win the award, giving him an implied probability of 5.88%.
But the Suns aren’t the only team getting support from bettors. The Detroit Pistons have received 91% of the bets on their over, pushing their win total from 24.5 to 25.5. The Memphis Grizzlies have had their win total climb from 46.5 to 47.5 after receiving 79% of over bets.
Here are all the win totals that have increased since the market opened:
- Thunder 55.5 to 56.5
- Knicks 53.5 to 54.5
- Cavaliers 46.5 to 48.5
- Grizzlies 46.5 to 47.5
- Pelicans 45.5 to 46.5
- Rockets 42.5 to 43.5
- Hawks 35.5 to 36.5
- Hornets 29.5 to 30.5
- Pistons 24.5 to 25.5
Alternatively, the Washington Wizards have attracted the most under win total wagers this offseason. The Wizards’ win total has dropped from 22.5 to 20.5 due to 92% of bets being on their under.
After making two lottery selections in the draft, the Wizards are expected to focus on developing their young players. But what’s interesting is that two of the other top under teams are considered the best in the Eastern Conference.
The Boston Celtics, who won the championship last summer after a 64-win campaign, have received 56% of bets on their under. Their win total hasn’t moved from 58.5, though the under is now priced at -130 instead of -110.
A total of 59% of bets have come in on the under for the New York Knicks’ win total. Their win total actually climbed from 53.5 to 54.5 after trading for Karl-Anthony Towns and Mikal Bridges in the offseason.
Here are all the win totals that have decreased since the market opened:
- Nuggets 52.5 to 51.5
- 76ers 52.5 to 51.5
- Bucks 51.5 to 50.5
- Mavericks 50.5 to 49.5
- Lakers 44.5 to 43.5
- Clippers 41.5 to 37.5
- Wizards 22.5 to 20.5
