Jazz Take Down Pacers By Melanie CurtsingerJuly 12, 2012 ORLANDO – The Utah Jazz continued their strong play on Thursday, defeating the Indiana Pacers 87-81 on day four at the 2012 AirTran Airways Orlando Pro Summer League. Utah improved to 3-1 with the win, while the Pacers dropped their second game in a row to move to 2-2 in summer league action, which is being held at the Magic’s practice facility at the Amway Center in Orlando, Fla.
Utah’s Alec Burks, who is averaging 19.5 points through four games this week, turned in yet another strong performance vs. the Pacers Thursday, leading all scorers with 22 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Enes Kanter chipped in a double-double for the Jazz with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Blake Ahearn rounded out the double figure scorers with 11. Behind Kanter, the Jazz also dominated the glass, outrebounding the Pacers by 15, 38-23.
Utah had a comfortable 61-53 lead heading into the fourth quarter, but Indiana made it interesting down the stretch, steadily chipping away at the lead to cut the margin to one, 79-78, with 46.3 seconds left on a pair of Julian Mavunga free throws. But Jeremy Evans answered on the Jazz’s next possession with a dunk, and Utah made all six of their free throws in the game’s final 20.1 seconds to seal the victory.
Indiana had four players in double digits – Ben Hansbrough (18), Miles Plumlee (15), Orlando Johnson (13) and Mavunga (10).
