Ranking Top 10 Eighth Overall Draft Picks in NBA History
#9 Geoff Petrie, 1970
Among all players selected eighth overall in the NBA Draft, nobody has a better career scoring average than Petrie, a two-time All-Star who averaged 21.8 points in his six seasons in the league, all with the Blazers. Twice in 1973, both times against the Rockets, he exploded for 51 points, making him one of only two Portland players all time with more than one 50-plus-point performance. The other is Damian Lillard, who has 12 of them. A knee injury cut Petrie’s playing career short.
