Ranking 10 Greatest Defenders in NBA History
#7 Dwight Howard
When Howard was in Orlando and in the prime of his career, it was nearly impossible for opponents to drive down the lane and get a shot off without it being altered a bit, if not blocked. Howard’s timing when he would soar high into the air to reject a shot was superb, a big reason why he led the league in blocks for two straight seasons and was named the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year in three consecutive years. Being an incredible athlete helped, unquestionably, but the Atlanta native was also very astute on the defensive side of the floor.
