Magic Acquire Draft Rights to Mario Kasun and Rashard Griffith
Orlando nabs rights to two 7-footers in separate deals
Orlando, FL – The Orlando Magic acquired the draft rights to center Mario Kasun (41st overall) from the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for future considerations (protection of first round pick owed to Magic goes from 1-17 to 1-21), General Manager John Gabriel announced tonight.
The Magic also acquired the draft rights to center Rashard Griffith (1995 Draft, 38th overall) from Milwaukee in exchange for the draft rights to center Jamal Sampson (47th overall). The draft rights to Sampson were acquired earlier in the evening from Utah, along with the draft rights to Ryan Humphrey (19th overall), in exchange for the draft rights to Curtis Borchardt (18th overall).
Kasun (7’1”, 260, 4/5/80) played two seasons in Croatia for KK Zagreb, averaging 4.7 ppg. and 2.5 rpg. in 30 outings. He had planned to attend Gonzaga University in 2000-01, but was ruled ineligible by the NCAA and returned to Europe. Kasun played for the Croatian Junior National Team in 1998-99 and for the Croatian Under-21 National Team in 2000.
Griffith (7’0”, 280, 10/8/74) was originally selected by Milwaukee in the second round (38th overall) of the 1995 NBA Draft. He has spent the last seven seasons playing in Europe, the last two seasons with Kinder Bologna of the Italian A-1 league. Griffith played collegiately at the University of Wisconsin from 1992-95.
