Ten of the Most Remarkable Individual Performances in Orlando Magic History

Ten of the Most Remarkable Individual Performances in Orlando Magic History

       logo

1 / 10The most assists ever recorded in a single NBA game is 30, Scott Skiles’ total for the Magic against the Nuggets on Dec. 30, 1990. Prior to Skiles setting the record, Kevin Porter’s 29 assists for the Nets against the Rockets in 1978 was a league individual best. Bob Cousy, John Stockton and Guy Rodgers each had 28-assist performances during their respective careers.

Bob Cousy, John Stockton and Guy Rodgers each had 28-assist performances during their respective careers.
thumbnail-image: Until late last season when Jamal Crawford scored 51 off the bench for the Suns against the Mavs, Nick Anderson was the only player in NBA history to score 50 or more as a reserve. The 6-foot-6 guard accomplished that on April 23, 1993, erupting for 50 points at New Jersey on the same night Shaquille O’Neal shattered the backboard with a thunderous dunk. Anderson, the Magic’s first ever draft pick, shot 17-of-25 from the field, 4-of-7 from 3-point range and 12-of-12 from the free throw line.
thumbnail-image: The only player in the NBA since 1983-84 to record at least 20 points, 20 rebounds and 15 blocks in a game is Shaquille O’Neal, who had 24 points, 28 rebounds and 15 rejections for the Magic against the Nets on Nov. 20, 1993. O’Neal is one of only two players to swat away 15 shots or more in a game during this time. Manute Bol, who did it twice, is the other.
thumbnail-image: One of Orlando’s most unique triple-doubles in franchise history was the one Brian Shaw had on Dec. 29, 1995 against the Clippers. While the numbers aren’t eye-popping – 11 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists – the fact that he did it off the bench and in 28 minutes of action made it extraordinary. Only 12 times in NBA history has a reserve recorded a triple-double in 29 minutes or less. Another player who achieved this rare feat, albeit with a different team, is Markelle Fultz, who played 25 minutes the night he became the youngest player to ever notch a triple-double while playing for the Sixers.
thumbnail-image: Dennis Scott, who led the NBA in made 3-pointers during the 1995-96 season, drilled a then-NBA record 11 triples in a Magic victory over the Hawks on April 18, 1996. Kobe Bryant was the first player to break Scott’s record when he knocked down 12 threes on Jan. 7, 2003 against the Sonics. Klay Thompson, who made 14 of them on Oct. 29, 2018 against the Bulls, currently owns the record.
thumbnail-image: Only three players during the first decade of this century (2000-2010) notched a triple-double with at least 40 points. The Magic’s Tracy McGrady was one of them when he tallied 46 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists against the Nets on Feb. 23, 2003. LeBron James, who accomplished this feat three times during this decade, and Vince Carter are the other two.
thumbnail-image: Since the start of the century, only four players have posted at least 62 points in an NBA game. Tracy McGrady was one of them when he racked up a Magic franchise-high 62 against the Wizards on March 10, 2004. Kobe Bryant did it three times, while Devin Booker and Carmelo Anthony achieved this once each. T-Mac also had 10 rebounds and five assists in his performance.
thumbnail-image: Eight times in Magic history a player has amassed at least 40 points in a playoff game. Dwight Howard and Tracy McGrady each had team-best 46-point postseason performances with the Magic. But, the most significant of them all was Howard’s 40-point eruption in Orlando’s series-clinching Game 6 victory over Cleveland in the 2009 Eastern Conference Finals.
thumbnail-image: Dwight Howard set an NBA record with 39 free throw attempts against the Warriors on Jan. 12, 2012. The 6-foot-11 center made 21 of them as part of his 45-point performance, tied for his highest regular season scoring total. The other time he scored 45 was on Feb. 17, 2009 against the Bobcats. Howard attempted 39 foul shots one other time in his career. That came in 2013 against the Magic in his first return to Orlando while playing for the Lakers.
thumbnail-image: Only 16 players since 1980 have grabbed at least 29 rebounds in a single NBA game. One of them is the Magic’s Nikola Vucevic, who hauled down a franchise-record 29 boards against the Heat on New Year’s Eve in 2012. The most rebounds accumulated by a player during this time is 35, Charles Oakley’s total on April 22, 1988 against the Cavs. Dennis Rodman registered at least 29 rebounds seven times, the most by a single player throughout this period.
