The Orlando Magic believe sports have the ability to bridge divides and bring people together. Consequently, we are committed to driving awareness, creating change and cultivating an inclusive culture where everyone feels welcomed, valued and appreciated.
Magic Diversity Game Changers honors local leaders who have made a difference in the realm of social justice and equality. Through this program, we are putting the spotlight on those continuously doing the hard work, day in and day out, fighting for sustainable change and commit their lives to making Orlando a better place. As part of this program, one person is selected and honored each game.
Starting In 2023, the City of Orlando officially declared May 25th to June 25th as Social Justice Month. To kick-off this initiative, the Orlando Magic and Florida Blue hosted the Orlando Magic Game Changers Reception. The panel discussion was facilitated by Star 94.5 radio host Monica May, which brought together recognized game changers and local leaders to discuss and showcase the many local advocacy and empowerment initiatives occurring during this month.
Orlando Magic proudly honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by hosting our annual MLK Week of Services. This week is a way to honor his life and teachings by participating in community activities and continuing to solve social problems.
Throughout February, we highlight intimate elements of the African American community. The month starts by honoring Historically Black Colleges and Universities with an HBCU Night game and ends with a celebration with our Black History Month game! We also host an inaugural Black Business Summit that brings together African American entrepreneurs, non-profit leaders, and corporate executives in Orlando to network and collaborate.
In March, we honor incredible women from across sports and business with inspiring and empowering messages. Our Magic's Gamechang(HERS) Summit brings together a group of influential women to empower and inspire current and future female leaders and the community.
In May, we take the time to recognize and celebrate the tremendous accomplishments and influence of Asian American and Pacific Islanders. Our Celebrate Diversity panel discussion provides an exclusive glimpse into how leaders are advancing through opportunities.
Throughout June, we celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community during Pride Month by participating in several events
across the Orlando community, and honoring the lives lost in the Pulse Nightclub tragedy.
We also honor Juneteenth by recognizing and celebrating Black history and culture. Celebrating diversity
and inclusive activities foster unity in our community!
From September 15 through October 15, we celebrate the history, culture and contributions of Hispanics and Latinos. Hispanic and Latino communities have had a significant impact on the Central Florida community, and we are honored to celebrate that.
Throughout October, we come together to celebrate inclusion, diversity and pride. Our goal is to promote best practices and insightful recommendations regarding creating safe spaces for members of the LGBT community.
The Magic of Mentoring initiative works to reduce the achievement gap among Central Florida minority males by providing educational experiences, exposure to careers in sports and mentorship. Since program inception, over 750 youth have participated in the Magic of Mentoring Youth Summit, learning from prominent leaders from the area.
