Community is More Important Now Than Ever
There is a tremendous amount of need in our community as we deal with the COVID-19 crisis. Based on the large number of community needs, the Magic and its affiliates will focus on one key area where it can have the biggest impact, hunger relief for children and families in Central Florida. There are many people who are going hungry every day based on income constraints and food insecurity.
Magic Dish An Assist
The Orlando Magic are committed to the Central Florida community and now more than ever the Magic, its teams and partners are joining together to help those in need during the Coronavirus pandemic.
The team's efforts include the Magic players and the teams' ownership group, the DeVos family, pledging $2 million towards a compensation fund for Orlando Magic, Amway Center, Lakeland Magic and Orlando Solar Bears hourly workers for games and time missed during the COVID-19 suspension of seasons. Magic players Nikola Vucevic and Mo Bamba have also contributed to the fund. In addition, Magic players including Jonathan Isaac, Aaron Gordon, D.J. Augustin and Wes Iwundu have contributed to the needs of local youth, with Isaac and Iwundu working with Project Life to make food donations; Gordon providing funding to Orange County Public School's Homeless Student Fund; and Augustin donating to Krewe of Red Beans in his hometown of New Orleans, which offers food to frontline healthcare workers.
Sharing Heart and Snacks in Central Florida
Today and every day, Southwest Airlines is dedicated to giving the world Heart. Southwest Airlines remains strong in their commitment to provide meaningful resources and support to communities all across the country. Southwest has recently donated $400,000 of in-flight snacks and beverages to members of the Feeding America network, including the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida here in our local community.Learn More
