TDIKH: December 11

Dec. 11, 2004

26 years, 110 days

It was the Clippers’ floor but Kobe Bryant’s house, as the star Laker dropped 37 points to lead the purple and gold past its Staples Center co-tenants.

Bryant left the Clippers’ home crowd chanting his name by also collecting 10 rebounds and five assists in the Lakers’ 89-97 victory — their fifth straight over their fellow Angelenos.

“No. 8 (Bryant) was huge for us,” Lamar Odom told the media. “He made so many plays tonight with guys in his face, and he can hit shots from anywhere.”

Odom held his own with 19 points and 12 rebounds to help Bryant combat Corey Maggette (27 points) and Mikki Moore (18 points, 14 rebounds).

But Bryant was undoubtedly the engine of the Lakers’ win, shooting 13-of-32 from the field and knocking down all 10 free throw attempts.

The Clippers held a four-point lead with eight minutes left when Bryant hit back-to-back shots in order to tie. He also made two of the Lakers’ last three buckets to ice it, as the Clippers were held scoreless in the final two minutes.

The Lakers had just 10 assists, but they made up for it at the foul line, where they went a perfect 20-of-20. Plus, they held their foes to just 37.1 percent shooting.
