It took a pair of outstanding efforts from two of Sacramento’s top players in order to counter a monster night from Kobe Bryant.

While Bryant went off for a series-record 51 points, Mike Bibby put up 40 of his own, while Kenny Thomas added a triple-double, as the Kings rallied for a 118-109 overtime win.

“I don’t care about 50 points,” Bryant told reporters. “It doesn’t matter at all. … Weird things happen in the NBA. This was one of them.”

Bryant heated up early, pouring in 21 points in the first quarter alone. He shot 17-of-35 on the night, including four 3-pointers, plus a perfect 13-of-13 mark at the line, which increased his franchise-high free throw streak to 48 straight.

Bryant, who also had nine rebounds, hit a pair of late free throws to put Los Angeles up, 104-101. But Brad Miller responded by canning a triple with 4.1 seconds left to force overtime.

Lamar Odom (16 points, 10 rebounds, six assists) fouled out quickly in the extra period, in which the Lakers managed only five points.

Though Bryant scored the rivalry’s most points in the Kings’ Sacramento era, Bibby shot 13-of-29 with six 3’s, while Thomas had 16 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.
