Los Angeles Lakers Community

The South Bay Lakers, Los Angeles Lakers, the Laker Girls and Lakers Gaming organized a reading stop for their Reading Across South Bay Team UP on March 12th at Carr Elementary School in Torrance.

The morning started with Lakers staff and players greeting students they came to the newly renovated playground to kick off the Reading Day with a ceremony. Students heard from the Los Angeles Lakers Director of Community Relations and General Manager of Lakers Gaming, Mathew Makovec, and South Bay Lakers player, Jack White, on the importance of reading and how the knowledge gained from it can be applied to multiple aspects of life.

Lakers staff and players visited different classrooms that participated in a month-long reading challenge to read. After introductions staff and players shared the value of reading inside and outside the classroom. At the end of the event, students were surprised a with South Bay Lakers swag bag. All students who completed the reading challenge also received a personalized South Bay Lakers reading certificate and a special edition South Bay Lakers comic book.

This event is part of South Bay Lakers' yearling programming with Carr Elementary that includes health and fitness clinic, beautification project, educational programming, and tickets to South Bay Lakers games during the 2023-2024 season.

Los Angeles Lakers Teams Up with Union Rescue Mission at the Annual MLK Day of Service

This year, the Los Angeles Lakers honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy by teaming up with Union Rescue Mission to volunteer at their homeless shelter. Union Rescue Mission is a mission that helps men, women, and children experiencing homelessness. Los Angeles Lakers, Lakers Gaming, South Bay Lakers staff, and Laker Girls joined to participate in various tasks to help prepare and serve meals in the kitchen. Volunteers were responsible for distributing plates of food, working the food line, cutting bread, wiping down tables, helping prepare for lunch/dinner and distributing Lakers items.

The day was focused on empowering the Los Angeles community to take collective action into our unsheltered community. The annual MLK Day of Service was a day of reflection on the dreams Dr. King had for our country and a meaningful day of positive impact on the Los Angeles Community.

Leading to this event, guests and staff from Union Rescue Mission were invited to enjoy a Los Angeles Lakers Home Game.

Lakers TEAM UP with School on Wheels for Holiday Shopping 2023

On Wednesday, December 13th, Los Angeles Lakers, South Bay Lakers staff, and the Laker Girls gathered for the annual TEAM Up Holiday Target Shopping.

Staff endeavored to make this holiday season memorable for underserved families by utilizing their holiday spirit and wish lists. Staff from the Los Angeles Lakers and South Bay Lakers took a trip to Target and shopped for 10 underserved families from School on Wheels.

Equipped with festive attire and in the spirit of the season, staff began their quest for the perfect items to fulfill each family's wish list as they were dispersed throughout the store. Each Team was responsible for providing essential family needs along with some fun gifts for the kids. Following the shopping spree at Target, staff returned to UCLA Health Training Center to wrap the presents.

After a jolly afternoon of holiday music, gift-wrapping, and bow placing, presents were packed full into two vans, ready to be delivered to our 10 families. The following day, staff had the opportunity to meet all 10 families and deliver them their gifts.

Lakers staff members unite for the purpose of uplifting those in need at this enchanted occasion. This is an annual highlight of the Los Angeles Lakers Team Up Program, during which we strive to assist those in need during the holiday season.
