LeBron James Named NBA Western Conference Player of the Week

Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James has been named NBA Western Conference

Player of the Week for games played from Monday, Jan. 16, through Sunday, Jan. 22.

James averaged 35.0 points (.510 FG%), 9.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 1.3 blocks in four games as the Lakers finished the week 3-1 with victories over Houston, Memphis and Portland.

To begin the week, James scored a season-high 48 points (16-26 FG, 5-10 3FG, 11-12 FT) to go along with eight rebounds and nine assists in a home win over the Rockets on Jan. 16, good for his third 40- point game of the season. Against the Kings on Jan. 18 in Los Angeles, James finished with 32 points, eight rebounds, nine assists, one steal and one block. In the contest, he became just the fourth player in NBA history to make at least 8,000 career free throws.

In a home victory over the Grizzlies on Jan. 20, James recorded 23 points, nine rebounds, six assists, two steals and two blocks as the Lakers snapped the Grizzlies’ franchise-best 11-game winning streak. James closed out the week with 37 points (14-24 FG), 11 rebounds, four assists and two blocks in a 121- 112 win at the Trail Blazers on Jan. 22, overcoming a 25-point halftime deficit, tied for the second- largest halftime deficit overcome to win a game in Lakers’ history. In the win, James passed Byron Scott for fourth place on the Lakers’ all-time list of 3-pointers made in franchise history (596).

In 37 games (all starts) for the Lakers this season, James is averaging 29.8 points (.508 FG%), 8.5 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 1.0 steals in 36.2 minutes. James has scored in double figures in all 37 contests this season, extending his NBA-record double-digit scoring streak to 1,133 consecutive games.

The 18-time NBA All-Star owns a league-record 67 career weekly awards, including six weekly honors with Los Angeles. This marks his second weekly award of the season and first since Jan. 9.
