Dean Tran Wins $100,000 Park MGM Big Shot Jackpot
Dean Tran considers himself something of a trick shot expert. So when he stepped to the STAPLES Center half-court logo with $100,000 on the line, he knew exactly what he needed to do to sink the most clutch shot of his life.
“I’ve been taking these trick shots my whole life, playing basketball my whole life,” Tran said. “So I was ready. I knew I could make it. … I knew if I could block out everything, I could make it.”
Tran’s belief soon turned into reality, as he launched from center court and bounced on one foot as his shot swished through to the sound of a roaring STAPLES Center crowd.
A huge LeBron James fan, Tran ran around the court and broke into James’ signature “silencer” celebration before being presented with his check for winning the Park MGM Big Shot Jackpot.
While Tran — a lifelong Lakers fan who grew up in L.A. — had no shortage of confidence, he did concede to being “a little bit nervous” about the task.
Even though he was celebrating his 40th birthday at Wednesday’s game, he insisted on only drinking water in prep for his big moment.
It paid off, as the counselor from Camarillo became just the eighth fan (plus former Laker Vlade Divac) to win the Big Shot Jackpot since it began in 2006.
Now it’s time for another big birthday, as his infant son turns 1 on Saturday. “His present just got upgraded,” Park laughed.
