2017 Player Capsule: Timofey Mozgov

Season Summary
It was an underwhelming debut season for Timofey Mozgov, who averaged 7.4 points and 4.9 rebounds in 20.4 minutes before sitting the final five weeks in order to give more minutes to the team’s younger players. Mozgov admitted to hearing “a lot” of fan criticism and said that it was tough for him to not play at the end of the year. When he was on the floor, he shot 51.5 percent from the field and was the team’s last line of defense.

By the Numbers
1:
Appearances made after the All-Star break. Mozgov was shut down for the last five weeks, giving time for rookie Ivica Zubac to start, as well as Larry Nance Jr. in a small-ball lineup.

2: Games played against Brooklyn. Mozgov turned in his strongest performances of the year against the Nets, scoring a season-high 20 points on Nov. 15 and recording his lone double-double on Dec. 14.

4: Games in which Mozgov scored at least 15 points. The Lakers found considerable team success when their big man was getting buckets, as they won each of those games, including against the LA Clippers and Oklahoma City.

What’s Next
Given how difficult it was for him to not play the last leg of the season, Mozgov will attempt to regain the starting center position for next year. The 30-year-old believes that his experience gives him an advantage over Zubac, 19, who also has eyes on that position. Over the offseason, Mozgov plans to improve his footwork and play for the Russian national team.
